29th IBM Scientific Award ceremony
The 29th IBM Scientific Award ceremony took place yesterday at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) This initiative reinforced IBM’s bet and investment in Portugal, distinguishing the talent of young Portuguese researchers and acknowledging the best of what is being achieved in our country in the fields of Computer Science and Information Technologies.
Afonso Teodoro, PhD in Electrotechnical Engineering and Computers by the IST, was the winner, chosen for his research work aimed at improving the information extracted from images or photographs. Manuel Carneiro, a researcher at the Systems and Robotics Institute of the University of Coimbra, was awarded an honourable mention for his work with applicability in the health sector, based on an innovative electroencephalography system.
The event was attended by Manuel Heitor, Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Arlindo Oliveira, President of IST, and António Raposo de Lima, President of IBM Portugal.
